Kewalo Apartments is a 38-unit affordable housing property located at 1407 Kewalo Street in Honolulu. The property was built in the mid 1960’s. The project consists of two mid-rise buildings and contains all 2-bedroom units for families at and below 60% of the area median income. Pacific Development Group in partnership with Hawaiian Community Development Board has completed an extensive renovation/rehabilitation program while retaining its affordability for the existing residents. A majority of the residents had been living there for many years. Issues included lead paint abatement, asbestos abatement, freeway noise attenuation, concrete roof parapet spalling, and rebar rusting.

The site amenities include an outdoor BBQ/picnic area, a laundry facility, solar PV covered car ports, partly furnished rooms, and a signature art piece by local artist, Kamea Hadar. The property is near shopping centers, various restaurants, and is located along the city bus route. The development team for Kewalo earned LEED Silver Certification for the completed renovations. Kewalo Apartments is also the recipient of the BIA-Hawai‘i 31st annual Renaissance Award of Merit for Hawai‘i BuiltGreen and was awarded a 2016 NAIOP Renovation Award.
